The terminology and framework are consistent from chapter to chapter. The book also has a glossary at the end, and links to further resources appear throughout, either as URLs in the PDF version or hyperlinks in the HTML version. Sustainability is the process of living within the limits of available physical, natural and social resources in ways that allow the living systems in which humans are embedded to thrive in perpetuity. Plenty of dispute about that. Because of the shallow and broad nature of the book, topics do not generally build upon each other, but they are broken up in logical ways. I am happy to read off a screen but for a 600+ page text, the luddite in me wants a hard copy. I liked a lot of this chapter, but again the authors seem oblivious to critiques of the idea. Love Canal is discussed without ever mentioning Lois Gibbs or environmental justice. Although the writing style is VERY dry, with an emphasis on gneralizations and take-home points, with fewer specifics and examples, I find the writing to be very clear and easy to read. Case studies provide real world examples of the material represented in the chapters. The book is written with the US in the perspective; it could add more global flavor by including relevant work being done in other parts of the world.
